Class Blog for Year 5/6 (Mount Edgecumbe)

Friday 9th October 2026

National Space week and we ended it creating our own rockets!
One child told me, "This was so interesting and very cool to design and improve our own rockets, our second prototype went the furthest."
Another said, "This was so fun, I loved improving each design." A third child wrote me a note that said, "I thought that this lesson was fun and I created a rocket with my team that went the furthest in the class of 2 m and 60 cm - we were close to beating Mrs Davies. We made sure our thrust was the same and worked on making it more air resistant by thinking about the nose and size."
Well done Year 5/6 for working to improve your initial designs and working well in your teams.

30th September 2026

Hello everyone,
We have been loving our World War 1 history learning, using atlases to measure how far away we are from key places and discovering where the Alps is. We have been enjoying some team building games, and hockey. I would love to share more pictures with you so please go onto your Arbor and give your permissions.
Do not forget the Looe Festival of Words trip for our class is on Friday - It is during school hours but the children do need to be in school uniform and with packed lunches.

Welcome back

Wednesday 16th September

Welcome back everyone, it has been a great start to Year 5/6 and the children are really enjoying their new topic which is looking at WW1 and WW2. We have even been learning some WW2 dances, had our own trench fights, have been learning all about nouns and verbs and thinking out of the box in DT.
A reminder that PE days are Wednesdays and Fridays. PE shoes should be black, trousers or shorts should be black or blue and plain white t-shirts please.

Please could you ensure if your child is wanting to go on the residentials for either year that the deposits are paid by Friday 18th September 2026.
