In our phonics lessons this week we have been using musical instruments to make different sounds.

We have been making loud, hard sounds and soft gentle sounds. We can identify pitch and copy a rhythm.

We are using our skills to transfer to our Christmas play; we are using percussion instruments to accompany our singing.

We have had a very productive week so far. This week we are learning about both Remembrance Day and Antibullying week.

To help our understanding of antibullying, we decorated odd socks to express how we are all different.

We have also been doing a lot of work around poppies and why we see them as a sign of peace.

We coloured poppies to strengthen our fine motor and early writing skills.

Our topic for this half term is "Celebrations" we will be finding out how we celebrate events and how different cultures celebrate too.

We kicked off our week with lots of ingredients in our outdoor tuff tray to make a celebration cake.

This week we are learning about bonfire safety and how to take care of ourselves and our pets during bonfire night.

We are also learning about Diwali which is the festival of light, we will compare similarities and differences between cultures and their festivals.

We made some delicious food this week in nursery. We used carrots to make some fabulous carrot and coriander soup, and to go with that, we made hedgehog bread from yoghurt and flour.

We had a great session with Ryan this week learning how to control a football with our hands and feet.

We were very lucky to have a visit from the pop-up play village this week
We had opportunities to role play as hairdressers in a salon where we could wash, brush and style the model heads

There was a tent where we could pretend to camp. We roasted pretend marshmallows and had a pretend campfire with barbeque food!

We allowed our imaginations to go wild! Took turns and shared ideas!

We fixed and built with role play toys and supported our personal social emotional development as well as our physical

This week we have been looking at autumn and how the changing seasons affect our environment. We have been experimenting with autumnal colours in our artwork, here we are using our fingers to paint the falling trees on our pictures.

We took a stroll around the school grounds to hunt for signs of autumn, we noticed falling leaves and how their texture was different to those still growing, we expanded our vocabulary with adjectives for the variety of colours, shapes, sounds and textures around us.

We have been experimenting with mixing colours to make new ones. Here is a fantastic deep orange made from mixing yellow and red paint.
This week the nursery children have been very busy!
We started our week with a visit to Hillcrest Residential Nursing Home where we did some art with the residents. We used our hands and seasonal coloured paint, to create some wonderful handprints of various sizes. We will use the handprints to cover our Autumn section of the season tree on the classroom wall.
Midweek was our PE session with Ryan our coach. We have been learning some ball skills, using our hands and feet to control tennis and footballs. We have also been refining our balance by carrying beanbags on our heads and shoulders. PE is a real highlight for the children and there are always lots of giggles and smiles during our sessions.
Friday morning was our second outdoor learning session with Kelly Edwards. This week we were foraging for natures treasure! We had to collect natural resources that would be good for bedding and food for the woodland creatures. The children were very excited to be out in the wild!
We are all very happy to be back into the swing of the new term and the children are all nicely settled and eager to enjoy all of the upcoming adventures we have lined up for our topic of "All About Me"
