Gymnastics

In Gymnastics this term we have been learning to use balances on the apparatus. We have been putting together sequences using different ways to travel between the apparatus. These sequences have been performed and evaluated so that we can help each other to improve.

Computing - Scratch

We have really enjoyed using Scratch, we have had to think creatively, reason systematically and work collaboratively. It has been good to explore the programme with our peers and everyone has grown in confidence and learnt something new.

Walk Like an Egyptian

This week we practised our Egyptian Dance routine before completing our final PE lesson and video performance in the hall.

We all really enjoyed this unit of learning and learnt some brilliant Egyptian moves!

Spring Term in Year 3

During the Spring Term we have been exploring the History of Ancient Egypt. In English we have been rewriting the tale of the Egyptian Cinderella. We have been looking at the similarities and differences between this story and the traditional tale of Cinderella. It prompted some excellent discussions about how the main characters were treated and how this would have made them both feel.

In Art we have been finding out about Egyptian Hieroglyphs and using these special symbols to write our own names. We have also been using different materials to create portraits of Tutankhamun and have looked at patterns and colours when creating our own pharaohs designs.

We went on a fabulous trip to the Box Museum in Plymouth where we were able to explore Ancient Egyptian artefacts and experience being curators.

Children's Mental Health Week

During the final week of Spring 1, we have been taking part in Children's mental Health Week. It has been the focus of our whole school assembly this and also our PSHE lessons. We have had some very interesting discussions about how we can look after our mental health and wellbeing. The class chose from a variety of wonderful activities, they worked with each other and enjoyed reflecting on their emotions and feelings.

NSPCC Rocks - Maths Day

On Friday 2nd February, the children had an amazing day taking part in the NSPCC Rocks Day. They came into school dressed as Rockstars and took part in lots of fun maths activities. We competed against children in Year 4 and 5 in a Times Table Competition on TT Rockstars and used our maths skills to play different times table games. The children also bought in a variety of games from home to play with their friends. It was a lovely way to raise money for the NSPCC and to have fun with maths.

Welcome Back !

It has been fantastic to welcome the Year 3 children back to school this term. It has been a very busy first couple of weeks and the class are really starting to settle in and enjoy the beginning of many curriculum subjects experiences. The class have enjoyed being reunited again and we have also had 4 new children join the class which has been lovely.

At the beginning of the school term, we have enjoyed learning all about what makes us special, this has been the theme of our PSHE unit. We have been talking about our classroom rules and also the Looe School Values. The children are already using many of these values during the school day and we are reflecting on how each of these values can help us both inside and outside of school.

This week, we have already welcomed the Open the Book team into school. The Open the Book team come into school to take an assembly once a month and their stories are always a great opportunity to think about how we can learn from the moral themes.

Our Curriculum question for the Autumn Term is "Were all Vikings vicious and victorious?". We look forward to showing you all of the things that we will be finding out. The children certainly have a lot of questions that they would like to explore.

As always, any question, please do email one of the Year 3 team and we will be more than happy to help.

Best wishes,

Mrs B Marshall and Mrs L Miles

Maths Biscuit Challenge

14th December 2023
Today we have been designing and making our own biscuits. We used our Maths skills to use rounding to estimate the costs and then we used formal methods to calculate the accurate cost of the biscuits. Once we had done this we then calculated the change. It was a lot of fun and we throughly enjoyed eating the biscuits once they were made !

Trip to to Maritime Museum - 15th December 2023

At the end of term we went on a trip to the Maritime Museum in Falmouth. We took part in a Viking Raiders workshop which was a brilliant opportunity to recap and revisit all of the knowledge we had gained during our topic this half term. We then explored the museum and found out all about the history of boats.

Birds on the Branch line - Trip on the Train

On Tuesday 12th December the children went on a trip from Looe to Liskeard and they were joined by some of the elderly people from the care home in Looe. This trip was all funded by Great Western Railway. The week before our trip, the children created a special poem for the old people with the help of Sally Crabtree. We made special rings to help us create our poems. During the train trip we sang Carol songs and Christmas poems. It was a lovely festive day out and we all had a lovely time.
