Class Blog for Year 3

Friday 14th November

Dear all!

We have been very busy as always in Year 3!

We finished our art project where the children made their own papyrus paper and then designed their own scroll.  This half term as part of DT, they will be designing and making their own sarcophagus!

In English, we have been following the story of Tadeo Jones and the children will be writing their own version this week.

In maths, the children are still working on addition and subtraction!  Please do not forget that for homework, there are assignments set on Mathletics!

For Whole Class Reading lessons, the children have been learning about emotions which ties in nicely with our PSHE unit "families" and how to resolve conflicts!

In French, the children are learning about different flavour ice creams!  They used our Outdoor Orienteering Markers to find the days of the week in French too!

In Geography, the children are learning all about the River Niles and it's features!  They will be writing about the journey of a tiny droplet later this week!

We will begin our Christmas Service practise soon - please watch out for dates of when the service is at the church!

That is all for now!

Year 3 News - Wednesday 8th October

Dear all!

Year 3 have been busy again!  In maths, we have moved onto addition and subtraction - please do not forget that your child has mathletics assignments assigned to them for homework!  We do allow time in school for them to access however, it is beneficial if they can practise at home too!

In English, the children have finished their own versions of the "Egyptian Cinderella" story. We will be sharing the stories on Friday with Miss Stricklands class :)  The next unit is to write an Information Text about the pharaoh "Rameses II (Rameses The Great) where the launch included a very special visitor who is over 3000 years old!!  The children questioned "Queen Nefertari" and found out lots of information in preparation for our Egyptian unit.

In science, the children are continuing their learning on human and animal skeletons.  Last week, they created a full sized human skeleton using sticks and this week, they drew various animal skeletons using chalk on the playground!!!

In art, the children will be making their own Egyptian scrolls so when they are finished, I will post them on our page!

That is all for now!  Please do not forget, Reading logs to be in school every day; book changes every Friday and Reading Eggspress/Mathletics assignments are set every week!!!! Thank you for your continued support!

Friday 26th September

Year 3 News!

We have had a busy week in Year 3!  We have continued with our Egyptian topic where all children made a Cartouche of their name!  They really enjoyed this and we have displayed them on our Working Wall.  In art, the children are experimenting with different patterns and textures and will be creating their own Egyptian Scroll next week.

In science, the children are learning about nutrition and food labels.  They made a giant food plate outdoors which separated the various foods into food groups!

In English, the children are beginning to write their own version of "The Egyptian Cinderella" story which by the end of next week, they will have published and shared with the other classes.

In PE, the children have been learning invasion and team building games.  All which involve lots of strategic thinking!

In French, the children will be learning all of the names of fruits!

For guided reading, the children are continuing with our Roald Dahl unit - please ensure their reading log is in school every day so that you can see when your child has read in school :)

I hope that the weather stays nice for many more outdoor activities next week!

Welcome to Year 3!!

Welcome to Year 3!!

Summer seems so long ago now and the children have settled well into our Year 3 class!  This term, we have many exciting things to learn and do!  The topic being one of my favourite subjects - Ancient Egyptians!

In maths we are beginning with a Place Value unit.  The children will be learning numbers upto 1000 and understanding 100's, 10's and 1's.  There are always assignments set on mathletics relating to the unit so please take a look!  The logins have been stuck into the front of your child's reading record.  Do note though that the Mathletics and Reading Eggs logins are the same now as they have merged companies :)

In English, the children are learning the "Egyptian Cinderella" story.  So far, they have learned the story and will be writing a character description at the end of the week.

In Science, the topic is "Animals Including Humans" and will be learning about diet and nutrition.  They will be looking at food labels and deciding deciding whether the foods are a healthy choice or best as a treat!  If you are out shopping, the children could watch out for those green labels!!

In History, we have begun learning about the Egyptians and how they lived.  They all understand how long ago Ancient Egypt existed and completed a fun timeline to show their knowledge!  Next, we will be learning about "mummification" which they are already excited about!!

Just a note to remember your child's reading record every day please!  They will be completing guided reading activities and whole class reading lessons so having them in school every day really helps to keep a good record and gives an opportunity for the children to continue with the karate band initiative.

I have attached the curriculum map for you to see the whole term.  Any questions, as always do let me know!
