Class Blog for Year 2/3 (Kynance)

Wednesday 14th October

Dear all!

It has been another fantastic week in Kynance Class!

Fantastic progress in Hockey!

We have been so impressed with the children’s improvement in hockey. They are developing much better control of the ball, keeping it close to their sticks as they move and becoming more confident when changing direction. Their passing and receiving skills are also improving, and it has been wonderful to see their determination and enthusiasm during our lessons!

Maths – Addition and Subtraction

In maths, we have moved on to our new unit on addition and subtraction. The children are developing their calculation skills and exploring different strategies to solve problems. We will be using practical resources and a range of activities to help build confidence and deepen their understanding of mathematical concepts.

English – The Stone Age Girl

We have begun our exciting new English unit based on The Stone Age Girl. The children are stepping back in time to explore life in the Stone Age and will be using the story to inspire their reading, discussion and writing. We are looking forward to developing our vocabulary, exploring characters and settings, and creating some fantastic pieces of writing over the coming weeks.

Art – Cave Paintings

Our Stone Age art topic is continuing, and next week the children will be completing their own cave paintings! They have been experimenting with different ways of making marks and exploring how natural materials could have been used to create colours and artwork in prehistoric times. We cannot wait to see their finished creations!

Black History Month – Inspiring Pioneers

As part of our learning for Black History Month, we have been discovering inspiring pioneers who have made a difference to the world. The children have been making excellent use of our school orienteering facility, following clues and finding out more about the lives and achievements of Rosa Parks and Mary Seacole. This has been a fantastic way to combine outdoor learning with discovering the stories of remarkable women who showed courage, determination and a desire to help others.

Don't Forget – Home Learning!

A little reminder to keep practising those skills at home by completing your Mathletics challenges and Reading Eggs challenges! Regular practice will help the children build confidence, consolidate their learning and develop their maths and reading skills. Thank you for your continued support in encouraging the children to complete these activities.

Well done, Kynance Class for another week of hard work, enthusiasm and brilliant learning! We are looking forward to seeing what you achieve next week!

Friday 2nd October

What another fantastic week we have had in Kynance Class! In our Stone Age art, the children have been busy mark making and experimenting with different ways of creating artwork. We explored how people in the Stone Age may have used different parts of their bodies to make marks and patterns, and the children had great fun getting creative and trying out different techniques. Their artwork has been fantastic!

We have also been enjoying our circus skills sessions! The children have been developing their coordination, balance and control while learning new skills and challenging themselves. There have been lots of smiles and plenty of determination along the way!

Our Stone Age dance has been a real highlight too. Working in groups, the children created their own movements to represent a Stone Age hunter. They worked brilliantly together, combining their ideas and creating some amazing group performances. We have loved seeing their creativity and teamwork develop!

In English and Maths, we are coming to the end of our place value units next week. The children have worked incredibly hard and have made some great progress in their understanding. We are very proud of the effort and determination they have shown.

Finally, we are very excited for our KS1 Harvest Assembly next week, where the children will be acting out the story of The Little Red Hen. They have been practising their parts and are looking forward to sharing their performance with everyone! Well done, Year 2/3, for another fantastic week! You should all be very proud of yourselves!

The Stone Age!

Thank you to everyone who came in to visit during Art this week!  The children have moved on to the next lesson of creating paints using natural resources.  They picked berries, leaves, dandelions, soil, sand, grass and flowers to grind down, add water and paint onto paper.  They really enjoyed this!

Our history lessons have been focusing on what the word "Prehistoric" means and created a timeline that was presented on the playground!

In PE, hockey is going well and the children learned how to "push" and pass the ball safely.  In PSHE, the children brainstormed ideas of what a "Dream School" might look like! They decided that a dream school would be everyone being nice to one another!

We are all looking forward to the Festival of Words trip on Monday!

Welcome to Kynance Class!

Kynance Class

Monday 14th September

Welcome everyone into the new 2/3 class - Kynance Class!

We were so busy last week, learning new routines and becoming used to a different space!  To ease ourselves into the year, we have learned expectations for each lesson and have adapted very, very well!

As our class is named Kynance, we largely spent the week learning all the facts about the area.  We researched on ipads and completed a questionnaire!  We then painted the cove which was very fun!

In English we are learning all about common, collective, partitive and proper nouns.  In maths we are beginning with a place value unit where the children are using many practical resources to help them.

On Wednesday, the children completed circus skills as part of the Enrichment programme.  They all did very well balancing and using their hand to eye co-ordination for the other activities.

This week, we will be launching our New Topic around the Stone Age - make sure you check back to see what we have been doing!
