Class Blog for Year 5/6

Welcome back!

Welcome back to our Summer term, let's hope the weather improves as we begin rounders and athletics PE on Wednesday and Fridays - don't forget the children are able to wear their PE kits on these days  - on the field if the weather is fine. This term our big question is 'What do we need to be an Olympian?' with a focus on the Ancient Greeks, our circulatory system, healthy eating and some great art and DT planned we are excited to teach the children some key myths and legends and investigate the Greek Gods and Goddesses.

Our new term kicked off with a wonderful event on Friday 19th April with our alternative sports day and it was lovely to see so many of you going out of your comfort zone in street surfing and Segway. I managed to catch a few photos of some of you and it was wonderful to see how supportive you were of each other.

What busy week!

We have thoroughly enjoyed our Mental Health and well-being week and have shared some of our activities with you. The theme was 'Your voice matters' and we have had some lovely discussions about what they feel, think and how they can make a difference. We also took part in safer internet day and really enjoyed thinking about what technology would bring us in the future and how we can keep ourselves safe.
This week we have also enjoyed learning the spike in volleyball and can not wait to put all our new found skills into some matches next term. Miss Cook and I wish you all a lovely half-term and will see you on Monday 19th February.

Spring term 1

Spring term 1

Welcome to our new year. We are looking at Crime and Punishment this term and we had a wonderful trip to Bodmin Jail where we learnt so much about the crimes from Cornwall that resulted in hanging. The children have also enjoyed learning about the key punishments from the Roman times (check out the Roman curses) and were able to use their knowledge from our previous topic on the Tudors to support.
In PE we have been enjoying learning how to play Volleyball - the dig, the serve and the set - and this week we began to bring them altogether. Our PE days are Wednesday and Friday and please ensure your children have the appropriate footwear please - trainers are needed. Many thanks for your support on this.
Weather - we have had some cold weather recently and are due more to come. The children need to be bringing in coats please.

Welcome back

Hello everyone and welcome back to a new year in school, for half of my class it is your last in Primary school.

I am excited to introduce this terms topic question - 'who were the Tudors and why do we remember them?' as History is a real passion of mine and if I could go back to any time period I would be the Tudors. We will be exploring aspects of Tudor life for the Rich and the Poor, the period from its beginning with Henry VII through until Elizabeth I demise, exploring Tudor houses, exploration, food and we have already been singing in rounds to some popular Tudor rhymes. They will be creating a multimedia presentation to share with you all to bring this learning to life which will be added to throughout the term. We can't wait to share it all with you.

In PSHE this term we will be thinking about being me - why we are so awesome, how we can set ourselves goals, our protected characteristics and how my behaviour and actions affect others.

A reminder that PE days are a Monday and a Wednesday this half term. The children need to come into school in their PE uniform on these days. Please ensure plain white/ pale blue t-shirt (no logos or writing) and navy or black bottoms; depending upon the weather conditions. They may wear their school uniform jumper/cardigan or a plain black/navy top. Thank you for your co-operation.
