At Looe Primary Academy, we believe that children learn effectively in a safe and secure environment. We believe that good behaviour is the cornerstone of the school curriculum and this is reflected in the ethos of the school.

We recognise that good behaviour underpins access to the curriculum and we strive to develop a quality learning environment and appropriately differentiated curriculum, which allows for equal access to a relevant, broad and balanced curriculum.

We have high expectations of behaviour and we regard it the responsibility of all within school to be consistent and fair with their interactions.

We value the contributions of Governors, Parents, Carers and Children and are seeking ways to continue to develop their involvement in the implementation of the school behaviour policy.

We are committed to the development of our practice, within the framework of the policy to ensure that the procedures and systems are effective, thus minimising problems by using appropriate rewards and sanctions to promote good behaviour.

Resolution of conflicting opinions and promoting positive assertive behaviours are areas which affect our school ethos. We believe the teaching of good behaviour is our joint responsibility and we share this with all members of our school community.

The principles, which underpin our philosophy, to ensure that children within our school are able to access the curriculum, are supported by research into effective primary education.

The Elton Report (1989) found that developing a school behaviour policy was of high importance and by having an agreed policy there would be a commonality of purpose. This would be reflected in a positive school ethos, which is based on understandable and agreed values and expectations.

It also found that there was a relationship between curriculum and behaviour, this is why we continue to strive to develop classroom organisation and management skills and assess the effectiveness of our curriculum delivery styles.
