Sports Premium

At Looe Primary Academy we believe PE and sport plays a vital role in the education of our children, with the potential to change young people’s lives for the better. We welcomed the Government's announcement in June 2013 to provide additional funding for the foreseeable future to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools.

We use our PE sessions to offer children more traditional sports as well as the opportunity to try different sports such as segway, fencing and field gun. They are taught about keeping physically and mentally healthy, making healthy choices and participicating and pushing themselves. This means that every child, regardless of ability, is able to enjoy and make the most of our PE sessions.

The government currently provides additional funding of £150 million per annum to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools.

You can find a copy of our Sports Premium Action Plan at the bottom of this page.

There are 5 key indicators that schools should expect to see improvement across:

1. The engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity - the Chief Medical Officer guidelines recommend that all children and young people aged 5 to 18 engage in at least 60 minutes of physical activity a day, of which 30 minutes should be in school.
2. The profile of PE and sport is raised across the school as a tool for whole-school improvement.
3. Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport.
4. Broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils.
5. Increased participation in competitive sport.

We are very proud of the amount of sport and activity that is offered at Looe Primary and the increasing number of children who participate. Even during Covid, we found new and innovative ways of engaging children in physical activity and offer a wide range of opportunities for all.
