Our School Day

We open our doors at 8:30am. Lessons begin after the register which is taken at 8:45am.  Children are marked late if they arrive after the register has been taken.

We have a morning playtime from 10:15am until 10:30am.

Children stop for lunch at different times as follows:

EYFS - begin lunch at midday

KS1 - years 1 and 2 start their lunch at 12:15pm

KS2 - years 3, 4, 5 and 6 all start their lunch at 12:30pm

All lunch times finish at 1:10pm

The school does not have an afternoon playtime, and we end for the day at 3.15pm.

If children are not collected at the end of the school day we keep them at the front office.

If you know you are going to be late to collect a child, or a child is going to be late at the start of the day please phone the school and let us know.

Very rarely a school may have to close in emergency situations such as snow, flooding, or no water or heating.

The decision to close a school is always made after careful consideration in regards to the safety and welfare of the pupils and staff. December to February are the key months where adverse weather can cause these situations so we have listed some points so you will be prepared if the school is forced to close. If snow is forecast, you will be pre-warned and asked to be prepared for such a situation.

Other situations may not be foreseen but the school will follow similar procedures depending on the issue.

A risk assessment of the site area will take place by key local staff to determine whether it is feasible for pupils and staff to be able to get to or remain in school.

If the decision is made to close the school the Headteacher will contact the Local Authority who will in turn contact local radio broadcasters BBC Radio Cornwall, Pirate FM and Heart FM.

All parents/guardians who have given us mobile numbers will be contacted via text.

Key staff will be at main entrances and the office at the usual start time to communicate with parents where possible. Please be aware that phone lines could be busy so check your text messages, the school website or http://www.cornwall.gov.uk/default.aspx?page=2995 for a list of school closures.

The same procedure would follow if the school has to close early.

Pupils who have arrived at school independently or of parents/guardians that cannot be contacted will remain in the care of staff until contact is made.

Parents would be updated on the situation for the following day.

Please note that if the school is closed due to heavy snow, it may be because staff cannot make it safely to school and that staff:pupil ratios are not sufficient enough for safeguarding the pupils.

To be prepared and to help us, please ensure that we have your correct contact details at the office.
