This information is intended to provide clarity and transparency to pupils and parents or carers about what to expect from remote education if local restrictions require entire cohorts (or bubbles) to remain at home. For details of what to expect where individual pupils are self-isolating, please see the final section of this information.
On the first day of your child being sent home, (s)he will receive home learning on the class
blogs to complete. This will be communicated by email. You will have access to maths, English
and curriculum learning as well as our learning apps such as Reading Eggs and Mathletics.
A Teams meeting for the parents of pupils in the classes of Mrs Yeo, Miss Bowden, Miss
Ainsworth, Mr Franklin, Miss Newcombe, Mr Bowden and Miss Hearnden will be arranged for
the first day of home-learning to explain how Teams will be used and to enable parents to
trial the use of Teams technology. You will receive an email with the time of your meeting the
day lockdown is announced. Following this meeting, we will then begin our first day using
remote learning on Teams.
Foundation stage (Mrs Brewer’s class) and Year 1 (Miss White’s class) remote learning will
look slightly different. This will be explained in an email to you following a lockdown being
announced or a bubble being shut down. Foundation stage learning will be presented on the
class blog for you through videos created by Mrs Brewer and you will be able to upload your
learning on Tapestry. She will be in regular contact with you through Tapestry and email. Year
1 will receive a mixture of learning presented through videos on the class blog and 1:1 or 2:1
live teaching focussing on phonics, maths and English.
If we are in a lockdown situation and your child is currently at school and we need to close a
bubble, from the day the bubble shuts, your child will receive the same provision as their
peers who are working at home.
When we are out of a lockdown situation, if a bubble goes down, as soon as possible and no
later than the next day, learning will be provided for your child through Teams or the class
We will be teaching the same curriculum remotely as we do in school wherever possible and
appropriate. However, we may make adaptations to some aspects of learning to enable
children to acquire, practice and embed a particular skill (eg. practical curriculum subjects
such as art, DT or music). Staff will adapt the curriculum as required so that resources are
accessible for parents at home. Daily remote education will take the form of English, maths,
phonics (KS1), a topic-based activity and opportunities for PE and PSHCE.
We expect that remote education (including remote teaching and independent work) will take pupils broadly the following number of hours each day:
Key Stage 1= 3 hours+ per day
Key Stage 2= 4 hours+ a day including additional extra-curricular activities that you can complete and additional resources for those who require learning challenges.
Emails will be sent out to all parents from both Mrs Waring and your child’s class teacher to
explain how to use the Teams remote learning app. We recommend that you download this
app onto your device. KS1 and KS2 children will be able to access remote learning on the class
blogs on the Looe Primary website but also through Teams. For any individualised support
Microsoft Teams one-to-one calls might also be used. EYFS will access remote learning
through the class blogs and Tapestry (which will be used for pupils to share their learning with
If you do not have access to a device or have other technology problems, then please contact
the school to inform us of this. The school will compile a list of pupils requiring technology
support. We will contact you as quickly as possible with a solution to your technology issues.
This might include lending tablets or laptops or devices to boost a poor internet connection.
Printed copies of the home learning can be available if you do not have online access. Again,
please contact the school if you require printed copies and we will ensure they are ready to
pick up on Monday morning. If you are unable to submit the work online, pupils can bring
their work into school and we will photograph this to add to pupil files.
If we are still not able to find a solution to your technology issues, a place may be made
available at school within government guidelines.
EYFS children and parents will be using the class blog and Tapestry. Every day there will be a new document on the class blog for you to access throughout the day with video clips from Mrs Brewer and other online resources. Mrs Brewer will be on hand to support if you have any problems via email or telephone.
All KS1 and KS2 pupils will have access to live and video-based lessons. Teachers will be available throughout each day for you to contact them via ‘Teams direct chat’ or a ‘Teams video call’.
Year 1 children will be using the class blog to access the daily document (Sway) for you to access throughout the day with video clips from Mrs Lister and other online resources. All children will receive additional live lessons in maths, reading, writing and phonics each week. Mrs Lister will be the teacher available on a Monday and Tuesday and Miss Hearnden will be the teacher available on a Wednesday, Thursday and Friday should you wish to contact them for support with your child’s learning. Miss Burrows and Miss Masters are also available throughout the week.
Year 1/2, Year 2/3, Year 3/4, Year 4/5, Year 5 and Year 6
You will receive a timetable to guide you with their learning including live lessons/video-based lessons throughout each day. Your child will generally receive a mixture of live and recorded sessions each day. There will also be a variety of independent activities and online learning resources for your child to access. You can adapt the timetable to suit you as a family. Teachers will be available throughout the day and can be contacted via email or through the Teams direct message. We are also providing additional interventions to support your child in their learning so staff will notify you if this applies to your child.

Your child is expected to engage with the daily learning provided by their class teacher. If this is proving challenging, please contact us and we can help in providing some solutions. We expect your child to complete the daily work assigned to them however we are flexible with when and how this achieved. For some families a structured timetable works and for others it does not. We want you to make home learning as stress-free as possible for you as a family and we are able to support if you are having difficulties in engaging your child. We aim to offer a range of learning opportunities throughout their lessons so that your child remains as motivated as possible. We strongly suggest creating a timetable linked to the daily structure provided by your child’s class teacher to provide routine as this is usual practice at school and gives children a visual guide to their day. You are not required to sit with your child during live lessons and we aim to provide learning that can be done independently. If your child is finding any learning challenging, then we advise that they or you contact their teacher via Teams so that we can support them. Please do not complete the work for your child and instead highlight to us any difficulties they face so we can support with progress. Parents/carers are asked to facilitate their child’s access onto Microsoft Teams. Please help your child to find a quiet space at home where your child will be able to focus and concentrate.
Children will be required to check in with their teacher at least twice a day. Children are required to submit at least one piece of work or evidence of learning for English, maths and the wider curriculum (including PSHE and PE) per week. Other informal methods will be used to monitor pupils’ learning including online sites such as Mathletics. For some lessons (particularly writing) they may be asked to submit their work a couple of times that week to support with providing feedback to help with their writing. We will be contacting your child via Teams if they have not sent over their work that week. This will allow us to check if there are any problems with uploading the work or whether they are finding their learning challenging. If we still do not receive the work, we will contact you to provide support. We do keep registers of pupils taking part in online learning which we review each week. If you are having any difficulties with accessing online learning, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
We will ask for 3 pieces of work to be photographed and submitted via the pupil’s direct chat
on Microsoft Teams each week. If this is not possible, these pieces of work can be sent via
email. We will also provide feedback to the children through the direct chat function, with any
possible next steps included, where applicable. We may sometimes assess understanding
through marking pieces of work together and quizzes marked automatically.
In Guided Reading, for KS1 children, they will read with an adult at least once a week during
1:1 sessions with an adult from school. The adult will assess whether your child needs to move
to the next book band. For KS2 children, they will complete a variety of reading tasks and will
read with their teacher weekly to develop their fluency and comprehension.
We will provide all SEND pupils with a parent friendly provision map to support parents with
accessing remote learning. When this has been provided, class teachers will follow up with a
parent consultation to discuss the provision map and any other support their child might need
during lockdown. This will enable an ‘Assess, Plan, Do, Review’ cycle to continue even though
pupils are at home. We will also remain in close contact with external agencies supporting
your child (eg. SALT and the Educational Psychologist).
We will adjust the level of support accordingly, offering one-to-one and small group online
support as and when needed for SEND pupils and sometimes if required provide a pupil with
an individualised pack of learning.
Mrs Prinn (firstname.lastname@example.org) and Mr. Smith (email@example.com) the Trust
and school SENDCo and Assistant Head respectively, can be contacted to provide further
advice and support if required. They will work closely with the class teachers to ensure remote
provision is the very best it can be for pupils with SEND.
Where individual pupils need to self-isolate but the majority of their peer group remains in school, how remote education is provided will likely differ from the approach for whole groups. This is due to the challenges of teaching pupils both at home and in school.
If my child is not in school because they are self-isolating, how will their remote education differ from the approaches described above?
If a child is self-isolating whilst their peers remain in school, although there will be no remote live teaching we will provide paper copies of learning that will match the learning of their classmates by the following day, after they have notified us that they are self-isolating.
